How can Christianity affect my life and how to apply it

Firstly, we are to follow the basic instructions in the Bible which states we must believe in our hearts and say with our mouths that Jesus is Lord of our lives. We are to be baptised in water and baptised by the Holy Spirit.

Romans 10:9 Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord

John 3:5 I assure you that no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and spirit.

Once this happens, we then have the power of the Holy Spirit, which is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus tells us that we will do greater things than he did (John 14:12).

Jesus left us a legacy:-

• We are expected to live in 'Shalom Peace'. This means we are to have sufficiency in all things, nothing broken, nothing missing.
• We are to have great relationships with people, friends and family. We are to have abundant financial resources not only for our own use, but also to help and financially bless those around us.
• We are to live in divine health

The Disciples and all Christians were also give an instruction called "The Great Commission", it can be found in Matthew 28:18-20 as is as follows:

• If we see someone who is sick we are to lay on hands and for them to be healed
• If we see someone who is possessed by demons we are to cast them out
• As we each individually learn this way of life, we are to share our knowledge and disciple others

If you have read or know something about the Bible, you'll know that whilst Jesus was on the earth he performed many miracles and provided us with a number of teachings. And all these teachings are illustrated in the Bible.

So to begin with, everything we need to know is already in writing. So where I'm coming from is to explain what I think faith in Christianity is supposed to look like so that you, me and anyone else for that matter can get an idea of what we are working towards and for, when we decide to make Jesus Lord of our lives.

For a start we supposed to be here. We're not an accident and we are not simply born to spend a few decades on planet Earth and die.

God created us so he could have a relationship with us, not to punish us or inflict some crappy existence on mankind because he had the needle with Adam and Eve. (Read the article The Big Picture to find out more).

As you may know, right at the beginning, all was good with God until satan screwed things up between Man and God.

Jesus came to the Earth to set things straight, to show us what life was supposed to be like then and then left us to it.

Your mission should you accept it is...

• We are to emulate Jesus, and to live and do the things he did, including healing and casting out demons.
• We are to live in perfect health
• We are to have an abundance of financial resources
• We are to enjoy wonderful relationships

Reality check!

Last time I checked, this wasn't or isn't the case for most people.

Consider this... The Great Commission is when Jesus told his disciples to lay hands on the sick and heal them, cast out demons and make disciples of other people. So what happened?

Throughout the new Testament we are told by Jesus and other writers that we are to ask God for anything we want and he will give it. If we financially bless other people, we will be blessed in return.

The warnings are there too. The love of money is the root of all evil. So it pays (excuse the pun!) to learn what the Bible says about how we are to live.

So why doesn't our world operate like this? Is it just a utopian ideal and therefore nonsense. If it is, then the Bible would have to be nonsense too. Or, is it that there are certain bits in the Bible that are easier to follow and so churches and teachers only concentrate on those elements that are not as contentious or visible as others?

Personally I believe that is the case! Living in abundance, healing and casting out demons are all quite visible. That’s probably why churches concentrate on emotional healing as it is not particularly quantifiable.

I also believe that laying on hands and casting out demons are supposed to be an ongoing and natural occurrence and not to be viewed as miracles for Christians.

Unbelief Kills It!

There is one other major factor; when Jesus was walking around on the earth, there was one point when even he couldn't perform many miracles and that was in a place called Capernaum, a village on the banks of the Sea of Galilee.  The reason being - because of the unbelief in the people around him.  And that is the other problem we have today! 

The collective unbelief of Christians, that includes laying on hands to heal the sick, casting out demons and accepting that God will provide for our needs is not believed in our society (in the UK) and therefore the attitude towards Christianity is all about performance and play acting. If you want to see what God can do, hang around people who actually believe God for his promises and not those who want to just say they do.

God has given us a blueprint how we should be living and it is supposed to be amazing. He is not right just some of the time.

If we do what we always done, we will get what we've always got.
