Starting or running your business based upon sound Christian biblical principles can be a little daunting, so we have compiled a list of our Top Ten Christian Business Strategies.

Take a look and compare what you're doing in your business? ...

1. Prayer & Fasting

Before you embark on any project that you think God has a hand in, it pays to pray!  Take a look at the article called The FACTSS of Life, it will give a backdrop to prayer and where we should start from.

Fasting on the other hand is all about controlling the flesh and in turn, changing the affect the world has on us.  We are told to pray and fast throughout the Bible as it helps gives clarity in decision-making and shows that we are prepared to be open to what God wants to tell us.

2. Study

Firstly, in Joshua 1:8-9 it says; Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

The instruction is quite clear, keep studying the Bible and the Holy Spirit will help guide you.  In James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

  • Find scriptures that relate to business development, finances, prosperity, security, abundance and so on.
  • Create your own prayers that use the scriptures you have found, as these act as precedents to support your "argument" that:
    1. a) God will keep his promises to you
    2. b) Satan is not allowed to infect or affect your plans

3. Corporate Prayer - At Church or Cell Groups

The Bible says When two or more are in agreement, there am I in their midst.  Ask and it will be given.

This is an important factor of ensuring that your plans line up with the will of God, which is the word of God.  This is why we must study the Bible because it is through this medium that God speaks to us and we are given wisdom.

Praying with those who know and agree with what you are doing is essential for success.  We have been made right with God and therefore we need to acknowledge his commitment to us through consistent prayer to him.

4. Planting Seeds

If you want something to grow, you have to plant a seed.  That's how things work.  The fact that it happens in nature, the natural, it also means that it happens in the supernatural.

  • Help someone in business with support or ideas
  • Give financially as a gift
  • Make an Introduction
  • Refer customers

5. Planning & Petition

Planning, marketing, sales, finance and so on are business imperatives, without planning a business will fail.  To begin with Jeremiah 29:11 says For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  So God has got a plan for us, therefore it makes sense of us to plan ahead in line with his word so that we can organise and forecast.

The vision God gave Pharaoh in Genesis 41:28-36 meant that he planned to store the food they grew over a seven year period so that they had enough to eat during the seven year famine that followed.  It also meant that Joseph was put in charge, second only to Pharaoh.

Once you have your plans on paper, search the Concordance in the back of your Bible to find the supporting scriptures for each section of your business. Then during your prayer time speak out your requests.  Yes, speak them, say them out aloud.  Psalm 94:11 says our thoughts are worthless, they don't do anything, they're only thoughts.  So say them out loud.

6. Don't Disrespect God!

  • Don't go native in front of colleagues
  • Don't forget him on Sunday
  • Don't forget to mention him at work
  • Don't deny him
  • Be the Bible people read (Customers & Suppliers)
  • Pray at work

7. Give Thanks

Acknowledge that your business succeeds because of God's will and strength.  It is through his strength and not our own that we can achieve his plans for us.

Tithes, offerings, gifts and alms are all expressions of our thanks to God for what he is doing in our lives.  Read the article called "What about our Finances" for more information about giving and where we stand regarding money.

When we are clear about God's love for us and we have gotten over our hangups and the enemies lies about money, we begin to experience a very different relationship with God.  Knowing what Jesus did for us takes a while to get our heads around it, but you will soon come to understand that God wants us to have the most amazing lives possible, not just financially

8. Keep Knocking

Once you have decided upon and agreed your plan, now is the time to get stuck in.  Don't give up, keep knocking:

  • 48% of sales people never follow up with a prospect
  • 25% of sales people make a second contact and stop
  • 12% of sales people only make three contacts and stop
  • ONLY 10% of sales people make more than three contacts
  • 2% of sales are made on the first contact
  • 3% of sales are made on the second contact
  • 5% of sales are made on the third contact
  • 10% of sales are made on the fourth contact
  • 80% of sales are made on the fifth to twelfth contact

Don't let anything or anyone put you off - the enemy would love for you to think that you can't do it!

9. Spiritual Warfare

You need to acknowledge that as sure as God exists and wants you to live the most amazing life possible, pursuing him, Satan also exists and wants you dejected and a failure and pursuing money.

Your prayers follow three paths; Firstly to thank God for what he has done, secondly for us to be given the resources and wisdom to bring our plans in to being and finally we are to bind up the enemy and stop Satan from thwarting our plans.

Take a look at Ephesians 3, the whole chapter.  Paul explains in 3:10 - His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This explains that God wants to show the enemy, the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, everything he is and how insignificant they are.  This is one of the most amazing chapters in the Bible as it explains why and more over, it explains what God has got planned for us.

Spiritual warfare is about understanding our power and authority and not allowing ourselves to be deceived by Satan's lies, hence this being mentioned in the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:13, "Let us not yield to temptation but deliver us from the evil one."

10. Do Not Worry

Jesus was very clear when he said do not worry in Matthew 6:25;  'Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

'And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you – you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, "What shall we eat?" or "What shall we drink?" or "What shall we wear?" For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
